| Welcome
to Acorn Bags!
We're
a husband/wife team dedicated to creating traditional bicycle bags...with
a few new twists. Our goal is to create simple, yet functional designs
that youd be proud to strap on your bike.
Acorn
Bags is a tiny shop that likes to keep things simple; each bag is
made one at a time, after your order is placed. We
make them the traditional way, with leather straps, thick canvas
duck and shiny metal bits. All our bags are individually hand-cut,
hand-riveted, stitched and assembled by my wife and I, right here
in Southern California.

Just
an FYI:
In the coming weeks, we'll be switching over to a new fabric supplier.
This means a couple of colors will change when compared to the
older fabric shown in the photos. The new olive canvas will be
a tad more grayish and the tan will be darker. If you would like
us to match your older Acorn olive or tan bag, let me know and
I'll try to save some of the previous canvas for you.

Spring
is in the air...and everyone seems to be dusting off their bikes
(and strapping on bags!) We've been flooded with orders in the
last few days, so please make note of the turnaround time in the
left sidebar. We'll try our best to get your orders out in a timely
manner.

Another
bag on the horizon:
For
those of you without the Brooks eyelets, I'll be designing a variation
of the Roll Bag that cinches in-between
the rails of your saddle. It will be a simple affair; similar
in concept to the "roll your own" burrito wraps...but
more secure, more finished and with a dash of style.

Better
late than never...we finally have the Acorn
Roll Bag ready for sale. Sorry for the delay, but we wanted
to get it right!
Our
new bag is perfect for those that pack light, but still want some
expandability (and style points). There's enough room for a tube,
patch kit, tire irons and mini tool, but you can sneak in a cell
phone and a handful of Gummi Bears too.
More
products are on the way, hopefully by this summer. Stay tuned.

Not
directly bag related, but here's a Brooks
video that was mentioned recently in Bike Forums. I have a
new appreciation of how much handiwork goes into these saddles!
Speaking
of videos...I learned of these vintage British
touring clips from Out
Your Backdoor. I've never seen so many saddlebags in my life.
Ahhh, those were the days...

I've
been getting quite a few requests to design a boxy style rando
front bag--similar the the beautiful Berthoud and Ostrich bags.
I have a few ideas floating around in my head, but nothing on
paper yet.
Rigidity,
support and style of attachment are my main concerns. I really
want to make it work for most bikes without having to resort to
a "decaleur" or other heavy and expensive mounting system.
If anyone has comments or suggestions, please feel free to comment.
Oh,
and our roll bag should be out in a week or two.

Dale
H. sent me an email along with some photos of his nicely equipped
Bob Jackson touring bike:
Just
found your site. I picked up a med saddle bag from you last
year. Again excellent build quality (better than Carradice).
I wanted to send the photo's of the bag on my Bob Jackson touring.
Fits extremely well with the Tubus rack as you will see.
Thanks
again,
dale

I've been
asked if Acorn bags will attach to sprung Brooks saddles. The
answer is usually yes...depending on your setup and frame size.
The bag will hang lower, so you will need enough clearance so
it doesn't scrape the tire.

Jae
from South Korea was kind enough to share these photos. He belongs
to the Korean Brompton Club - 3000 members strong!

His handlebar
bag also serves double-duty as a...

...mini pannier. Very clever!

Photos
of Acorn Bags in action are welcome and appreciated! Email
me your pics (640 x 480 pixels or larger) and I'll post them
in an upcoming gallery page. Thanks!
